TRUE Goalie Assist Recipient Associations Announced

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association and TRUE Hockey have announced the 75 associations that will be receiving full sets of goaltender equipment through the Goalie Assist program.

The program, first announced in the summer, allows for players aged U9 and below to try out the goalie position without making the financial commitment of purchasing equipment. This approach allows more children to experience playing in goal and become stronger in the position.

The Goalie Assist program helps to kick off the first of a five-year partnership that will include 75 sets of goaltending equipment donated each year by TRUE Hockey to associations across the OMHA. This is part of TRUE Hockey’s long-term commitment as the official equipment partner of the OMHA in helping local associations attract, develop and retain young goaltenders across the province.

Equipment received through Goalie Assist is intended to remain owned by the Association and be used by entry-level goalies for years to come. The sets of TRUE Hockey equipment include a chest protector, blocker, catcher, pads and stick.

“I got my start as a goalie in the OMHA, so I know what that first set of gear can mean to a young player, and how often cost keeps kids from ever trying the position,” said Geoff Sarjeant, a former NHL Goalie and OMHA Alumni who is President & Chief Growth Officer with TRUE Hockey.

“Being trusted by so many of the world’s best goaltenders is something we don’t take lightly, and we believe it comes with a responsibility to give back where the game begins. This partnership is about opening the door for more kids across Ontario to step into the crease, fall in love with the position and stay in the game.”
